Our Goal:
For every child to discover the joy of reading.
Language is what connects people.
The experience of sharing a story with a caregiver is one that provides young children with an enduring sense of security. In turn, this helps develop a love of reading. So although it's possible for children to use read-along ebooks as an independent reading activity, please do take the time to share the reading experience with them.
However, not every caregiver is able to read to their children in the language they are learning at school, or wish to practise at home. Particularly in communities where English is the dominant language, home languages are often lost over generations. This creates a disconnect; culturally, linguistically, and emotionally. This disconnect has repercussions for children’s development in all areas, including academic progress.
Many English-speaking parents acknowledge the many benefits of speaking another language fluently and want this experience for their children - especially if it’s something they have not managed to achieve themselves.
At Reading’s a Breeze!, we believe that learning to read in their home language should be a basic right for all children and that the advantages of bilingualism and bilingual literacy should be available to all, regardless of their cultural background.
Whether it’s in their first language(s) or an additional language, we want to provide children with a reading experience that can be both shared with a carer, and accessed independently. We aim for our eBooks to be both engaging and educational, ensuring children want to read. Our multilingual versions allow readers to select the language of their choice in which to read the story, encouraging a keen interest in other languages. Curiosity about language differences helps broaden children’s cultural perspective. A broad cultural perspective helps them value diversity and connect with others in meaningful ways.
Note: Our single language eBooks are currently optimised for the Books app on iPads and iPhones. However, both single language and multilingual versions can also be viewed by downloading a free eReader app - Pubreader - for iOS or Android devices.
