Reading's a Breeze! Ltd is an independent educational publishing company, focussed on producing interactive, read-along eBooks to help young learners develop literacy skills in their first, or additional languages. Our texts are available in English and Spanish, with French, Italian, Indonesian and other languages coming soon.
Two parts: the speaking, then the reading
Reading’s a Breeze! is now two things working together. Talk Time is a daily oral-language lesson of 10–15 minutes, running through nine phases, individualised to each student and building the spoken vocabulary a child needs before print can do anything for them. The read-along eBooks then carry that same vocabulary into real curriculum content.
Both run on one shared vocabulary sequence. What a student learns to say in Talk Time is what they meet on the page, in the same order — so reading becomes recognition rather than guesswork.
Talk Time teaches through gesture and spaced retrieval practice, and it adapts to each student: vocabulary a child has already mastered returns less often, and vocabulary they are still building returns sooner. For new arrivals with little or no English, this is the part that has to come first.
Two axes, levelled separately
Titles are levelled on two independent axes: Language Level — which band of high-frequency vocabulary the text uses — and content age-range, which describes how demanding the ideas themselves are.
Because the two are separate, a title can carry advanced content at a simple vocabulary level, or simple content at an advanced vocabulary level. My Family is the first title published across multiple Language Levels this way, and the library is being extended along both axes.
That decoupling is what allows one library to serve a gifted-and-talented reader in the early years and a teenage new arrival with little English — two groups usually forced to choose between books that are too easy and books they cannot yet access.
The texts are levelled 1–5 by bands of high-frequency vocabulary. A book at a child’s Language Level is one whose words are already in their spoken repertoire — words they recognise when they hear them, not words they can decode. The narration carries the decoding, and that is precisely what allows a child to meet rich content and rich vocabulary well above the level they could read on their own.
This is deliberately not a phonics programme. Structured phonics teaches children to decode, and it is essential. What phonics cannot do is build the broad vocabulary and background knowledge that long-term literacy depends on — decodable texts are vocabulary-constrained by design. Our books do that other half, alongside the phonics you already teach.
Vocabulary size in the early primary years is one of the strongest predictors of later academic success.
Each Language Level draws on a band of the most frequently used word families:
Level 1 - Most commonly used 100 words
Level 2 - Most commonly used 200 words
Level 3 - Most commonly used 300 words
Level 4 - Most commonly used 400 words
Level 5 - Most commonly used 500 words
Lesson plans and additional learning activities to accompany each title will also be available - contact us for more information.
WE WANT TO HELP ENHANCE LANGUAGE LEARNING FOR
ALL LANGUAGE LEARNERS…
...so we've set up school-based subscriptions which will allow you to distribute all of our eBooks, in any of the available languages, to all students in your school.
Contact us for school and district pricing.
Upon purchase of a school subscription, your school community will be granted 12 months' access to the web app versions of all titles*, in all languages. This allows teachers to use the titles in class with students, but even more importantly, it allows students to access the titles at home. In fact, with the read-aloud narration, the whole family can join in. Key vocabulary and sentence structures can be revised every day, giving schools a concrete strategy for overcoming the constraints of the timetable and its impacts on learning outcomes.
If you have any questions at all, please contact us - we want to actively partner with you to ensure our eBooks meet the needs of you and your students. And if you don't have any questions, drop us an email anyway! We'd love to hear about you, your school, your students, and which language(s) they are learning.
